Phoebus Apollo was the son of Zeus and Leto.
He is the God of Light and Truth, as well as the God of the Sun, who drives the
Sun-Chariot across the sky each day. He is a master musician, playing his lyre
to the delight of all who hear him. He is male beauty personified, and, in
opposition to Dionysos, also represents reason rather than emotion. In The
Iliad this reason manifests itself as coolness, emotional distance, and impenetrability.

In this Apollo, a gold netting has been stretched over the
eyes and mouth, to emphasize his enigmatic qualities. The eyes and mouth of
the actor can be seen, but only slightly. His face is a pure gold,
brilliant, proud, and unemotional.
