Charun was an Etruscan
Deity, (Not to be confused with the Greek Ferryman Charon). Charun was
involved with the bridge between life and Death, he was said to have appeared
on the Roman Gladiatorial floor after a competitor had been killed. He would
take his hammer and smash the skull of the defeated, just to make sure he
was really dead before passing into the underworld.
Charun in this vase painting is on the far
right. |
