Arlecchina's Masks are designed for the actor, tempered by experience and forged in the creative spirit of innovative performance.
What is it about masks that have fascinated so many cultures for thousands of years? Perhaps it is the paradoxical nature of the mask that allows it to reveal even as it conceals. The mask conceals the human and reveals the divine. It conceals the specific and reveals the universal. "Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth." --Oscar Wilde When an actor dons a mask, a merging occurs and both the actor and the mask become something entirely new and different from what each one was separately. A mask can free an actor from the stock limitations imposed by gender and age. A young woman can become an old man. A man can be a young girl. The essential spirit of the performer is revealed, and the final limitation is only that spirit's imagination. Each mask is handcrafted from start to finish by the Mask Artist. The masks themselves range from historical reproductions to variations of familiar stock Commedia characters to wild flights of fancy that embody the renaissance of interest in contemporary mask performance. Arlecchina's Masks are built only after ordered by our customers to allow us to customize each mask to your specific needs. Many Masks can be received within three weeks, but large or complicated orders may take four to six weeks. Please advise us of your deadline when ordering.
